Measurement Services

For light souces, displays and signs, we measure the amount of light produced, its colour, its rendering quaility and its spatial or angular distribution. We also report the energy efficiency (LOR, luminous efficacy, energy efficiency index) and photobiological risk group. We compile photometric data in .ies and .ldt (EULUMDAT) standard formats as well as UGR glare rating tables. We provide standard photometric data files in IES (.ies) and EULUMDAT (.ldt) formats per IES LM 79-08 and BS EN 13032. We can also report luminous flux (lumens) unified glare ratio (UGR), scotopic lumens and S:P ratio, chromaticity, CCT, colour rendering, luminous efficacy (wall plug efficiency) and power factor.

For LCD and LED displays as well as traffic signs and signals, we can measure spot luminance (cd/m2) and colour as well as the full spatial (2D) luminance and colour distribution. We can also measure display view angle and contrast ratio goniophotometrically. We can also measure display flicker.

Photometric Testing provides precision, NPL-traceable spectroradiometric measurements from the UV to the IR (200-1700nm) to assess the hazardous exposure levels of lamps and luminaires in accordance with BS EN 62471 and the Artificial Optical Radiation Hazard Directive. The service includes the risk group computation.

Photometric Testing provides measurements of the luminous exposure and effective intensity of flashing lights and emergency beacons. The effective intensity of Visual Alert Devices (VADs) is tested in accordance with BS EN 54-23.

Measuring the optical properties of materials. Spectrophotometric measurements of reflectance and transmittance are offered over the wavelength range from 250-2500nm. We can report total hemispherical reflectance as well as the diffuse and specular-only components of reflectance. Also BRDF and BTDF scatter measurements.
